What Aspen allows, and the 2027 closure
Aspen–Pitkin County Airport (ASE) sits at 7,838 feet (FAA), has a single 8,006-foot runway, turns away aircraft with a wingspan over 95 feet or a landing weight over 100,000 pounds, and is closed from about 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. local — the detail is on our Aspen page and in the Aspen airport guide. For a Dallas trip, the curfew is the rule that shapes the day: an evening departure after work still has to land before Aspen closes for the night.
The bigger change is 2027. Pitkin County has announced that ASE closes to all flights, commercial and private, from Sunday, April 4, 2027, at 11:00 p.m. until Friday, November 19, 2027, at 7:00 p.m., while the runway is rebuilt. From Dallas the fix is simple, because the alternates are barely farther: Eagle (EGE) is about 610 to 635 nautical miles away and Rifle (RIL) about 640 to 660, an estimated 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 30 minutes aloft. Aspen Snowmass names Rifle, about 61 miles from Aspen, for private aviation, and Eagle, about a 1.5-hour drive.
