When do Vail and Aspen actually open for 2026–27?

The two resorts don’t open together. Vail Resorts’ own release puts Vail Mountain at 13 Nov 2026, Beaver Creek at 25 Nov 2026. Aspen Snowmass’s release has Aspen Mountain and Snowmass opening together on Thanksgiving Day itself, 26 Nov 2026, with Highlands and Buttermilk following on 12 Dec 2026, when all four Aspen mountains are finally running.

Why does the holiday calendar matter more than the mountain calendar?

The airport, not the mountain, is where a charter feels the season. Its private-aviation terminal lists two windows as travel periods: 25–29 Nov 2026, tied to Thanksgiving, and a longer one, 24 Dec 2026 through 3 Jan 2027. Both are windows where every operator is moving aircraft through the same single runway at once.

Which event weekends add pressure on top of the holidays?

Three events pull their own traffic into the valley: the Stifel Birds of Prey World Cup at Beaver Creek, 3–13 Dec 2026; X Games Aspen at Buttermilk, its 26th year, 29–31 Jan 2027; and the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix (Buttermilk and Snowmass), 27–28 Feb 2027. Add MLK Day, Mon 18 Jan 2027, and Presidents’ Day, Mon 15 Feb 2027 — both three-day weekends that add demand on their own.

How busy does Aspen’s airport actually get during those windows?

ASE publishes its own operations data, and it shows which days strain the field. In 2026 so far, the busiest day recorded was Sunday, 22 February — 296 total operations, the weekend after Presidents’ Day week; the second-busiest was Saturday, 3 January — 294 operations, the return weekend from the Christmas/New Year window. Both landed within roughly 150 operations of the airport’s own stated ceiling of 448 operations per day under ideal conditions (the FAA’s 28-operations-per-hour throughput figure at ASE). Across all of 2025, the airport logged 46,744 total operations, 70.8% non-airline — general aviation, air taxi and charter, the traffic Vision Air Charter’s flights are part of.

What happens to Aspen’s airport after this season?

The headline fact: ASE closes to all flights, including general aviation, from Sunday, 4 April 2027 at 23:00 to Friday, 19 November 2027 at 19:00, for runway reconstruction. Aspen Mountain’s own season doesn’t end until 18 April, so the final two weeks of the ski season have no Aspen airport at all — arrivals move to the alternates already used when ASE’s own limits don’t fit a trip. What does this mean for planning a charter?

No source states an official lead time for Aspen’s holiday periods, and we won’t invent one. What the data shows: two declared holiday windows, three event weekends, and two federal three-day weekends, all layered onto a single runway that came within a third of its own daily ceiling on its busiest 2026 days — a calendar of pressure points, not a lead-time rule.
